USING THE e-CALENDAR

Every operation is carried out with JUST ONE CLICK on the left or right buttons of your mouse.

To navigate forwards or backwards through the calendar, click on the weekly, monthly or yearly navigation buttons. If you click and hold these buttons down, the navigation speed increases.

Note that when the default graphic set 1 is selected and the current month is displaying, the monthly picture is followed by a mini slideshow showing views of The Heron's Cove™. All the other months show one picture only.

To enter your daily notes in the data entry box below the calendar month, type them in and click on the picture, the calendar month or any one of the navigation buttons (or the space between them) to save your data. The text will change from grey to black to let you know it has been saved.

If you want to delete an entry for a given day, highlight the text, hit the delete button on your keyboard and click once (as above) to permanently delete your daily notes.

You can also use the right click button to cut, copy, paste or delete text as in any Windows® application. Remember to confirm by clicking 'outside the box' as above.

To insert a new picture into the e-calendar, drag and drop a picture file icon from your own computer or local network or a picture from your browser. You will be given the opportunity to save your new pictures when you quit the program. Please note that this only applies to graphic sets 2, 3 and 4. Any changes you make to the default picture set (graphic set 1) cannot be saved - they will remain in the calendar for the duration of the current session only.

To get a fully configurable random screen slide show, right-click on the monthly picture. You can now right-click again to display a pop-up menu to allow you to change the slide show settings. You can add graphic sets, change the picture aspect ratio, adjust slideshow timings, choose your own background music and configure the volume levels with just one click on this pop-up menu. The ability to add graphic sets allows you to display up to 48 slides in the show. If you decide not to make any changes to the pop-up menu, just click on any of the selected parameters to close the menu.

At the bottom left hand side of the e-calendar, there is a check box for displaying or removing hints. Once you get used to using the e-calendar, you can turn the hints off by unchecking this box. Please note that the default setting is 'hints on'.

To toggle between weekly view and picture view, click on the picture to see the week and vice-versa.

In weekly view, if you want to select and activate the data entry box for a particular date, click on the date. The box text will now appear in red to show that this is the active date. Note that the weekly view is read-only and all edits must be made in the data entry box at the bottom right.

Use the search box at the bottom left to locate a particular diary date or any text you may have entered in the diary. The calendar contains all dates for just shy of the TEN THOUSAND years between the 4th January AD 100 and 26th December AD 9999!!!

If you prefer to use the American style calendar where the week begins on Sunday and the first week of the year is considered to be the week containing the 1st January, click on the European flag to change the system. The calendar will instantly transform into the American style and the United States flag will appear in the place of the European flag. If you are in the American system and want to use the European system where the week begins on Monday and the first week of the year must have at least four January days, then click on the American flag for the calendar to revert to the (default) European system and the European flag will take the place of the "Stars and Stripes". These changes will also carry through to the paper printout of the calendar.

You can maximise, minimise or resize the calendar and drag the separator bars around to get just the view that suits you. Your settings will automatically be remembered the next time you use the calendar.

No matter where you are in the diary, you can immediately shortcut back to TODAY by left-clicking on the space between the week buttons, year buttons or month buttons.

You can click on The Heron's Cove™ logo to display our website and click on the Pictocal® logo to display this help page.

If you right-click in these spaces, you will get a printable calendar page for the chosen month. If you click on the picture on this preview page, you will be taken to a printer dialog box where you can choose your printer and print off the page.

The slideshow (which is activated by right clicking on the monthly picture - see above) can be configured very easily. You can control all visual aspects of the show as well as choose what background music you want to play during the show.

The default tune is an extract from Angelina Carberry's poised and precise rendering of "Dermot Grogan's Jig" from her album "An Traidisiún Beo" (The Living Tradition).

You can find out more about Angelina and her delightful music at her website: http://www.reeltrad.com

Remember, you can change the background music to a tune of your choice by simply clicking on the pop-up menu and choosing your preferred track from the dialogue box which is presented to you.

The default pictures used in the e-calendar and slideshow are supplied by courtesy of: Jules Thomas, Mary Hayes, Michael Collins, Sue Hill and Stephen O'Sullivan of Goleen, West Cork.
